Maintenance

The FrontRower is built for salt water, so there is no need to hose it down after each use, but you should keep it reasonably clean and free from debris.

No oiling or adjustments are needed.

The ropes and pulleys will last for many years with no signs of wear.

The Return Springs should be replaced every 600 miles.  (If you row for one hour a day three times a week at 4 miles an hour, you will row 600 miles in 50 weeks or about one year.)  The springs are easily changed by the owner, no tools required.

The oar handle attachment collars should be replaced every 1,200 miles.  This is easily done by the owner, requiring only a Phillips head screw driver.

Keep the varnish in good condition.  The varnish we use is highly UV resistant, but sunlight will eventually degrade any varnish.  Storing it under cover will minimize sun degradation.  A good maintenance plan is to touch up the top surfaces and any scratches once a year, using an artists brush and good quality oil base marine varnish.  Every few years, if the varnish on the sides of the frame pieces begins to dull, you should apply two thin coats of varnish there, too.
